The Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile has been developed to replace the AIM-7 Sparrow. It possesses significantly greater speed and active-radar guidance, making it a 'fire-and-forget' weapon. Following a protracted development, it was first combat-deployed with U.S. forces in the Gulf War. It will likely be made available to NATO countries soon.
